The XM Studio Thor statue was sculpted by Erick Sosa and released in 2015, with the usual edition size of 999 samples. The piece is imposing, with a size of 38 x 33 cm, a heigth of 56 cm and a weigth of approximately 14 Kg. In essence, the pose is static: the God of Thunder has the feet firmly resting on the ground and the legs slightly apart; the trunk is just rotated and the left arm outstretched, with the index finger (or Mjolnir) pointing a possible interlocutor, and the right one along the corresponding side, with the hand holding his legendary hammer (at rest or spinning) or, alternatively. with a clenched fist. The physique of the character is massive and imposing: the large rib cage shows well defined pectorals and abdominals, while the muscle on both arms are simply impressive and really worthy of a God! The pose points out the oversized biceps, while a lot of veins are scattered here and there, carved in relief. Also the quadriceps are bumped at best, as emphasized by the darker shades on the muscle contours and the folds of the blue suit around the pubic region. The figure is very faithful to the classic version of Comics, with the six, well refined and circular silver plates embellishing the black suit on chest, abdomen and below the waistline, a golden belt with the winged buckle showing a centered "T" and two red and black bands at wrists. The costume is completed by the two long boots with yellow bands, equipped with the large and semi-rigid black knee pads on top, and, above all, the enormous and very attractive red cape, moved by the wind, which provides the whole piece with a great chromatic contrast. As aforementioned (and usual for XM Studios), the statue has many add-ons: three interchangeable heads (two with and one without the helmet), two left hands (holding Mjolnir and pointing finger), three right hands (with Mjolnir, a spinning hammer or a clenched fist), an art print by Hive Studio and the silver plated coin in a limited edition. The effect of the spinning hammer is similar to the one realized by Bowen Design for the Thor Action statue and is achieved by a large circle of translucent resin and a lot of different hammers, positioned at subsequent azimuth angles and colored with various grey tonalities; indeed, this "circle" is very heavy and is supported by the ruins of a reinforced concrete wall, suitably located on the base. Both the other versions of Mjolnir at rest are well proportioned, have a small leather lace at bottom and are enriched with the engraving of the mythical commandment of Odin about the "possess of the power of Thor". Two of the available heads (with and without the helmet) depict the Prince of Asgard with a seductive beard, designed and sculpted to perfection, and always a long and flowing blond hair. Also the facial traits are quite similar to Comics, with long and arched eyebrows, two thin blue eyes and sharp contours on nose and mouth, which provide the face with an austere and proud expressiveness. The helmet has a perfect oval shape and a metallic appearance: the two lateral wings are separated and constituted by a sort of metallic profile, acting as a hooking-point for a lot of white feathers, sculpted and assembled in a masterful way. My general feeling is that the collectors' community has somehow underrated this piece. Probably, the upper part of the body is slightly overdimensioned (also compared to the legs), but such a hyper-definition of muscles is a typical feature of Sosa style and, in my opinion, it emphasizes the powerful and magnificence of the character, as well as his faithfulness to many old tables of Comics. Perhaps, the coloring of the uncovered parts of the body is a bit too pale, but this detail certainly does not detract the aesthetics and majesty of the statue. Simply a must for all fans of the Asgardian God!
